Overcoming Barriers to Education
For Youth Initiative works with the community to ensure our youth have the support they need to engage meaningfully and successfully with education and training that will catalyze their futures. FYI supports high school aged youth by offering tailored academic planning and free, daily onsite tutoring support to achieve academic goals, graduate high school, and provide a foundation for future success.
In 2020-21 63% or 466 high school youth were supported by FYI programs and services.
Virtual Tutoring and Back to School
As students adjusted to virtual schooling during the year, FYI survey data demonstrated that tutoring was a top need. FYI successfully pivoted to offer onsite daily tutoring virtually so youth could continue to receive academic support.
FYI Scholarship Program
Furthermore, through the FYI Scholarship Program, we rally the support of our communities to remove and decrease the financial barriers young people face in their pursuit of higher education. The FYI Scholarship Program supports youth towards a brighter future through funding support for various forms of education including: college, university, training, trades, and certificate programs. The scholarship is given to youth who display exceptional community involvement and are actively involved in activities that benefit others.

In 2018 For Youth Initiative awarded $14,000 in scholarship funds to 11 youth to support them in the pursuit of higher education.
